Lecture
In this week in lecture we looked at an introduction to mark XHTML and CSS - Multimedia and the Web. We covered topics such as types of mark up, drawbacks of presentation mark ups, and structural rules. These were the main topics discussed. On the topic of XTML and CSS, I learned that XHTML is a replacement for HTML; it is stricter than HTML and only contains logical mark up if done correctly. CSS stands for cascading style sheets; it is used with XHTML document and contains the presentational mark up. Both are plain text documents. I also learned about mark up language which I didn’t really know about before. I learned that producers of technical documentation increasingly prefer logical mark up over presentational mark up. Presentational mark up is tedious and expensive; authors can spend 15% to 50% of their time on the appearance of each page.
Tutorial
This week in tutorial we started to look at Dreamweaver, XHTML and CSS. During this session we mapped a network drive, and then went onto creating a web page. The tutorial showed how to add colour, changes text sizes and style of text. We then looked at CSS. We also looked at tagging and titles. Right at the end of the tutorial exercise we looked at adding external links to other WebPages. We also looked at the wrong way, the better way and the right way. This was confusing being taught one thing then doing it again another way and then another way.
Reflection
I am finding the lectures recently very tedious. I enjoy lectures with geene Stubbs, as I find that I learn more the way that she presents the lecture. I have worked with Dreamweaver whilst doing a BTEC National in college. So I find that I can produce a webpage using Dreamweaver quite easily and I have also used CSS before so I think that I can expand my knowledge further now whilst in the tutorials, as I can progress further on with Dreamweaver to a higher standard. I struggled with HTML coding in college so I feel that maybe in tutorials I should look more at this to see what Dreamweaver is actually changing what I am doing into HTML coding.External Links

PPI and DPI
DPI measures the number of individual dots of ink that a printer can produce within a one inch space. I learned from the lecture that the higher the DPI the clearer and more detailed the print out will become.
PPI represents the number of pixels per inch whilst talking about photo images. The dot size can vary on the photo prints. It is most appropriately used to scale existing digital images to a specified print size.
This week’s tutorial we covered how to place an image onto a text so it appears as the colour of the text. We then saved it to the same file in which the webpage that was linked in blackboard. This webpage was already edited with HTML. When the webpage was loaded the text that I created in Photoshop appeared in the webpage.
We then went onto do the same for logo 2, but with logo 2 we created the background to match the webpage. We then moved onto buttons and the blue glass effect. We then experimented with different button shapes.
This week i found the lecture to be hard to concerntrate in. This i find is due to the topic, its quite a dry topic, and i find that it was hard to adjust to the concept of it.

Week 6
During the tutorial this week we had to consider ways in which we couldn include user tasks into usability evaluation. First we had to think of a typical user of the University of Glamorgan Website, once we had done that we had to think of a task which they would typically perform. Once we did this we had to imagine we were the user and evaluate how easy the task was to perform, and write down any problems using the website, which may need to be altered in order for the user to have the easiest and most efficent use of the website. Once we had noticed these we then had to give the task to another student to perform to analyse how they perfomed the task and note down any problems that i didnt notice but they did.
Two external links this week was hard. So therefore i have chosen the website which we did our task on and also the Nielsen's Ten Usabiltiy Heuristics

Week 5
During the lecture we talked about design a practicality and usability. During the tutorial we thought about an old design such as the old televisions, which only had buttons which allows only have buttons which allows 4 channels, we looked at the future as it is now, and come to the decision that this was not practical as we have hundreds of channels available now. So the old television cannot be used. I learned that you always have to look to the future when designing, because if things can progress they probably will. When you are making your design you have to think of the long term usability and how the user will be affected with any changes that could have been made.
During this weeks tutorial we had to look at a website which had the recommendations for building a homepage. We had to look through chapter 5 and comment on the recommendations published on the website. We also had to consider different scenarios; such as would these recommendations apply to gambling websites, or children’s websites. With the recommendations in mind we then had to search the Glamorgan website and comment on whether the website used any of the recommendations published and if so how.
I really enjoyed this week’s lecture because the lecturer used real life examples in order to portray the lecture. This helped me understand the subject much better. I did not enjoy the tutorial as much as I found it tedious. I learn a lot from lectures but I find that the tutorials are not that helpful and this week did not relate to the lecture, or if it did I could not see the relationship between the two.

Week 4
The tutorial this week consisted of a task where i had to search the glamorgan website for certain aspects which are involved in making a good website. i had the checklist and had to search for it on the glamorgan website and then tick it off and answer questions if i found it. Some of these tasks involved looking for internal links, external links and use of text, animation and also video if applicable. The tutorial i found was very helpful as it made me actually think of what multimedia makes up the internet and websites, i didnt realise how much of the internet was multimedia based.
2 external links which are useful examples of multimedia are:
www.youtube.com - this is a link to a video website which is an example of multimedia

Week 3
The tutorial this week i really enjoyed we did shape tweening which was where i made the shape number one into shape number two which was animated this tutorial allowed me to see a different part of flash which i have not experienced before. i found the worksheet to help us was very helpful and i had a lot of fun playing with flash, since knowing how to use the shape tweening part of flash. im enjoying these flash classes because i am learning more and more about flash which i never really looked at before. There is so much on the internet which is all flash i never realised how much of it was flash. And these flash tutorials are interesting aswell as useful.
Most games on the internet these days are using flash, below there a link to a website of games which are made in flash.

There is also another web site which people from around the world post their flash movies they have made to, the link is shown below
